In Virginia and across the US, people celebrate West Virginia Day, in a great manner. Since it is considered as one of the most enjoyable holidays observed in the country, many Americans go out on this day. Having fun with friends and family, marks the importance of this day. People belonging to religious and non-religious communities celebrate this Day in their own way. For American citizens, this Day is considered as a holiday with full of events. They enjoy family gatherings and community festivities.
Due to diversified culture that exists in West Virginia region, it is difficult to understand how this day is celebrated in the US. Other reasons, include mixture of several cultures and several traditions. Most of the families living in West Virginia join together to enjoy this feast.
The feast has main dishes, like ham and Turkey. It includes Polish sausage, lasagna, cabbage and roasted duck as well. However, everyone shares this feast that has common dish consisting of plenty of sweets. They eat it during the entire season.
Traditions include exchanging of cards and gifts; arranging and decorating a West Virginia Day tree. Homes are also decorated with lights and ornamental items. Parents and kids visit local malls to see ‘Santa Claus.’ They also attend parties on this day.
Many families arrange trees consisting of Dougles fir decorated with lights. Other articles of decoration include candy canes, ornaments and tinsel. In public area, community trees are installed that are wide and tall in size. As a part of holiday celebrations in the community, the trees serve like center piece.
The importance of this day is that people can enjoy lights and see giant tree installed at Rockfeller Center, in the City of New York. A huge public ice-skating rink can also be seen in this place.
